Qantas plans pilot union talks

Qantas and the union representing its long-haul pilots will resume talks today, in an effort to resolve the ongoing dispute over pay and conditions. The Australian & International Pilots Association (AIPA), which represents 1650 long-haul pilots, is targeting better pay and conditions for its members. One major sticking point is thought to be the union’s demand that pilots employed by low-cost unit Jetstar are offered the same and conditions as their colleagues at full-service Qantas. The airline says this will restrict Jetstar’s ability to offer low fares, making the business unsustainable.
