Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou is to launch a rival to easyJet namedFastjet. The airline’s website simply reads ‘Fastjet.com by Stelios. Coming Soon!”and follows ongoing friction between Ioannou and easyJet’s board.
The low costcarrier said it was aware of the move and would act to protect its rights. “easyJet plc announces that it has received notice from Sir SteliosHaji-Ioannou that he intends to set up an airline brandedFastjet and that a website has already been established,” itsstatement said. “easyJet has a number of rights under itsagreements with Sir Stelios and easyGroup IP Licensing Ltd (a subsidiary ofeasyGroup Holdings Limited) as described in the Circular to shareholders dated16th November 2010. To the extent that any activity of Fastjet, Sir Stelios or any companycontrolled by him infringes or would infringe those rights, easyJet will takenecessary action to protect the rights of easyJet and the interests of itsshareholders”.
