RainforestAlliance has launched a new network in recognition of tour operators thatpromote and support sustainable tourism.
The Tour Operators PromotingSustainability (TOPS) programme has been launched with companies in LatinAmerica, the US and Europe and will offer training including fam trips. It willalso help tour operators establish business relationships; get involved with promotions;gather information on sustainable suppliers and inbound operators will be ableto receive discounts on RA’s verification services.
“We have established agreements that allowTOPS members to receive special rates for their participation inpromotional events and tourism fairs,” states Cristina Suhr, internationalmarketing manager for sustainable tourism at the Rainforest Alliance.To become a member, inbound tour operators must comply with 50% of the scheme’srequirements and commit to a minimum of 70% compliance in the following year. Outboundoperators must have 30% sustainable suppliers with the aim to increase to 50%within the year.
