Cornwall will play host to the UK’s first Festival of Sport from 14th to 16th September 2012. The new annual three-day festival will be held in Mount’s Bay in West Cornwall, and will consist of a triathlon, cycling races, a cross-country race, open-water swimming and a beach run. In addition, the festival will host live music and entertainment events, a Sporting Expo with talks from leading sports nutritionists, trainers and physiologists, and other sporting activities such as touch rugby, beach volleyball and netball. Camp sites and shower facilities will be set up within 100 metres of the main site.
“In 2012 Cornwall will be celebrating the Olympic year with a host of sporting events both on land and the water and the Cornwall Festival of Sport will be one of the sporting highlights,” said Malcolm Bell, head of VisitCornwall. “Cornwall’s natural environment with its dramatic landscapes and seascapes creates the perfect arena for participants and spectators of the Cornwall Festival of Sport 2012. The swimming and triathlon element of the event will take place around the iconic St Michael’s Mount, making the event unique in the world of competitive open water swimming.”
The festival will aim to raise funds for Wings for Life, the spinal cord injury charity.
