Greening meets with ABTA after award win

Secretary of State for Transport Justine Greening met with ABTA members today as the association celebrated an awards win for its APD campaign. Greening joined members to talk about the tax, airport infrastructure and ATOL in her first industry body visit since entering her new role.

Mark Tanzer, chief executive of ABTA said the MP appeared committed and engaged within the sector. “The Secretary of State understands how vitally important the sector is in creating the right conditions for growth,” he explained. “She has hit the ground running at a crucial time for the industry and her willingness to meet with us today is the clearest indication that she is willing to listen to the industry’s concerns”.

Greening said the government would continue to work with ABTA and the industry to develop a sustainable aviation policy.

The news comes after ABTA won a ‘Public Affairs News’ award for its A Fair Tax on Flying Campaign. “While we are all proud of this achievement there is still a lot of work to do to ensure the Government does not increase this punitive tax again,” said Tanzer on the win.
