China funds transport development in Philippines

The Philippine government has announced plans to revive a US$11.5 billion development project. The Chinese funded infrastructure programme will develop rail, air and sea transport facilities around the country, including a new train line between Manila and Clark. This project is specifically designed to relieve congestion at Ninoy Aquino International Airport, making Clark the primary air transport facility in the country. Transportation Secretary Manuel Roxas told AFP that the five-year programme will include extensions to Manila’s light rail systems (pictured) and three provincial airports, as well as capacity improvements at major provincial ports.
