Singapore Airlines (SIA) has said it welcomes the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission’s (ACCC) decision to approve its proposed alliance with Virgin Australia. The two airlines intend to align their networks, offering a range of codeshare flights, synchronised flight schedules, access to each others’ airport lounges, and frequent flyer tie-ups.
“We are pleased with the ACCC’s draft approval,” said SIA’s Regional Vice President for Southwest Pacific, Subhas Menon. “Our partnership with Virgin Australia will enable us to deliver a best-in-class travel experience across Australia. Today’s announcement will be welcome news to leisure and corporate travellers alike who will benefit from the more attractive and competitive travel options this alliance will provide.”
The proposed alliance is subject to regulatory approval in both Australia and Singapore.
