ANA’s domestic passenger traffic has almost returned to the pre-tsunami levels of 2010. In August the Japanese carrier carried 3.87 million passengers on domestic routes, just 0.7% fewer than the same period last year. The rate of decline has gradually improved each month since the devastating 11 March disasters, and load factors have also now recovered to a reasonably healthy 70.7%, compared to just 47.6% in April this year.
In terms of international traffic, ANA carried 559,900 passengers in August 2011, 31.1% more than the same month last year. International load factors are now averaging 82.8% – the first time they have exceeded the 80% mark since the disasters.
