AirAsia Japan has submitted an application to the Japanese government for an Air Operators Certificate (AOC). The new low-cost carrier, which is a joint venture between Malaysia’s AsiaAsia Bhd and Japan’s All Nippon Airways, is planning launch domestic services from Tokyo Narita airport by August next year, with international services following in October 2012.
Domestic destinations will initially include Sapporo, Fukuoka and Okinawa, while the airline’s first international ports of call will be Seoul (Incheon) and Busan. All routes will be served using Airbus A320 aircraft.
Kazuyuki Iwakata, the airline’s CEO said; “We are expanding the AirAsia philosophy of ‘Now Everyone Can Fly’ and introducing it to Japan. The three domestic and two international routes we have announced our intention to fly are just the start. We look forward to expanding our network to serve more guests in due course.”
AirAsia Japan also announced that it will soon start recruitment and staff training activities.
