Tokyo Haneda passenger levels surge

The number of passengers travelling on international flights in and out of Tokyo’s Haneda airport has more than doubled.

The airport commenced regular international services 12 months ago, and since then 6.93 million international passengers have used the hub – 110% more than the previous 12-month period, according to the latest data from the Tokyo Immigration Bureau, reported by Kyodo News. The figure is slightly short of the government-set target of seven million passengers, but given the problems affecting Japanese travel in the past year, the result is still impressive.

The number of Japanese international travellers using Haneda reached 5.04 million in the 12-month period, up 160% year-on-year, while foreign travellers increased 50% to 1.89 million.
