Sriwijaya Air to add 22 new planes

Indonesia’s Sriwijaya Air will add 22 new aircraft to its fleet next year, as it expands routes and replaces old jets. The Antara news agency reported Sriwijaya’s President Director, Chandra Lie as saying yesterday that the company has ordered 12 Boeing 737-500s, five B737-800NGs and five Embarer E-190 aircraft.

Sriwijaya currently has a fleet of 30 older B737-200, -300 and -400 aircraft, which it operates on domestic routes and international services to Malaysia and Singapore. The company is also planning to add flights to China and Australia in the future.
