The prolonged flooding in Thailand is now affecting tourism in Southern Laos. With northern transport routes blocked, the flooding has triggered a drop in the number of tour groups heading to the southern province of Champassak. Speaking to the Vientiane Times, a border official said that tourist though flow has dropped in the last two months since the flooding began. “There are currently very few Thai tour group coming here. Some days of the week there are no group tours passing through this checkpoint,” the source said. The Vangtao-Chongmek check point usually process 200-300 tourist per day. Authorities expect number to remain subdues until January.
