Jetstar launches Beijing flights

Jetstar launches its first flights to Beijing today. The low-cost carrier’s new daily Melbourne-Singapore-Beijing service takes off on Thursday, with Beijing becoming Jetstar’s 10th destination in China.

The route will be operated using a wide-body Airbus A330, configured to carry 303 passengers in two classes.

Jetstar’s CEO for Australia & NZ, David Hall, said; “This new route to Beijing means more Australians can explore the Great Wall of China, Terracotta Warriors or the Forbidden City.

“It won’t only be backpackers on these flights; it will be families who want to experience something unique on a budget. We also expect a lot of people living in Australia will capitalise on the low fares to visit friends and family in China more often,” he added.

Tourism Australia’s Managing Director, Andrew McEvoy said the new route would allow Australian business to capitalise on “the big inbound growth opportunities in China and Asia”.

“This latest route also strengthens the air links between Australia and Singapore, which remains one of our stand-out Southeast Asian markets, surpassing 300,000 visitor arrivals last year,” McEvoy added.

Flights depart Melbourne at 1200, arriving in Singapore at 1650. The connecting flight to Beijing departs Changi airport at 1835, arriving in the Chinese capital at 0050 the following day. On the return leg, flights depart Beijing at 0250 and arrive in Singapore at 0930. The service then departs Singapore at 2050, arriving back into Melbourne at 0655 the next day.
