Indian Ocean tsunami warning system tested

Indian Ocean rim nations are testing a UN-backed tsunami early-warning system. The AP reported that Wednesday’s exercise – the first full-scale test of the system – saw evacuation drills take place in India and Malaysia, while bulletins were sent by phone, email, SMS and fax to more than 20 countries taking part. The system was installed after the devastating 2004 tsunami that left more than 230,000 people dead or missing.
