Mumbai may get waterway transport

Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan has directed state transport agencies to complete a feasibility study for the coastal waterway transport project within the next two months. In a review meeting this week, the minister has asked to immediately study traffic volume, tariff range and modalities of operations. The project envisages a private ferry service between Nariman Point and Borivali on the western coast and between Gateway and Alibaug on the eastern front. Times of India reports that if all goes to plan, work tenders could be awarded within two months and the project completed within two years.
