Flybe has taken delivery of the first two of an order for 20 new aircraft. The brand new E175 regional jets aircraft, built by Brazilian planemaker Embraer, landed at Exeter airport yesterday, and were given the traditional water cannon salute by the airport’s fire service.
The delivery follows a massive order placed by Flybe at the 2010 Farnborough Air Show for up to 140 Embraer E-series aircraft, comprising 35 firm orders and purchase rights for an extra 105.
Andrew Strong, managing director of Flybe UK, commented; “The arrival of our first two new Embraer aircraft is a significant moment in Flybe’s history and I’m delighted that the British weather held-off to allow us to celebrate the deliveries in traditional fashion by giving them a proper soaking!
“The aircraft will be in service in the next few weeks, once the relevant approval has been gained from the CAA, and I’m sure Flybe passengers around the UK and Europe will be impressed by the comfort, speed, reliability and performance of one of the world’s finest aeroplanes,” he added.
