North Sea ferry travel continues rise

Passenger numbers on the North Sea ferry route between Harwich and Hook have continued to grow in the last year.

Stena Line has reported a 10% increase on the route during the first three months of the year compared to the same period last year. During March alone it has seen an 11% rise in cars transported on the route, with a total of 78,000 passengers last month.

Lars Olsson, general manager for travel on the North Sea at Stena Line said increased air taxes and its Superferries had helped boost the route.

“We are facing increasingly challenging times and it is reassuring to know that we are growing our customer base, even though we have to fight much harder to attract new customers,” he added.
