Five cities receive international airport status

India’s Union Cabinet has approved international airport status for five airports in the country.

The cities receiving international airport status are Lucknow, Varanasi, Tiruchirapalli, Mangalore and Coimbatore. The international airport status will offer improved international connectivity, wider choice of services at competitive cost to air travellers.

Varanasi gets international airport status

According to a PIB release, all these airports are capable of handling medium capacity long range type of aircrafts and are also equipped with facilities for night operations. “All works pertaining to upgradation of the airports to international standards have been completed. The declaration is expected to provide impetus to domestic and international tourism and contribute to the economic development of the concerned regions.

Below are the details of operations undertaken at these airports

Lucknow – The airport runway is suitable for AB-300 type of aircraft operations in all weather conditions.

Varanasi – The airport runway is suitable AB-320 type of aircraft operations in all weather conditions.

Tiruchirapalli – The airport runway is suitable AB-320/B-737-800 type of aircraft operations in all weather conditions. Night operations are permitted.

Mangalore: The airport runway is suitable for AB-310 and B737-400 type of aircraft operations in all weather conditions. Night operations are permitted.

Coimbatore: The airport runway is suitable for B767-400 type of aircraft. Night operations are permitted.
