Siliguri to emphasis on eco-tourism

The Siliguri Muncipal Corporation (SMC) will propose to the state government of West Bengal to develop the town as an eco-tourism destination. As a first step to the plan, SMC will develop a bird sanctuary in Fulbari on the outskirts of Siliguri. The Telegraph reported Gangotri Datta, the town’s Mayor, while presenting a budget of US$317.3 billion (INR146.90 crore) for the project, as saying; “We will ask the state government to develop the town as a tourist destination with emphasis on eco-tourism. The civic body will extend all possible assistance from its end.” A delegation of the Eastern Himalaya Travel and Tour Operators Association asked Datta to develop tourism infrastructure in and around Siliguri.
