Jetstar is expanding its presence in Indonesia, with the launch of new flights and the opening of a new travel shop in Jakarta.
The low-cost carrier’s Singapore-based subsidiary, Jetstar Asia, has announced plans to mount an additional four weekly services to both Medan and Surabaya, increasing the total frequency of both routes to 10 flights per week.
These new flights will be introduced from 27 October 2013 – the same day Jetstar increases its capacity from Singapore to Bali and Jakarta. As previously announced, the Singapore-Jakarta route will increase from 24 to 28 flights a week, while Bali will move from five weekly flights to daily.
In total, by the end of October Jetstar will have increased its capacity between Indonesia and Singapore by 48%.
“The recent opening of air traffic rights for foreign carriers to operate in Indonesia has allowed Jetstar to capitalise on the demand for our services not only to destinations we currently serve but to look at new destinations such as Lombok, recently announced as a new port for Jetstar Airways,” said Jetstar Asia’s CEO, Bara Pasupathi.
“Jetstar Asia is excited to deploy the two new recently acquired aircraft to existing and new destinations in Indonesia, Southeast Asia and beyond,” he added.
Backing up the growth of its Indonesian operations, Jetstar is opening its third retail outlet in the country. Located in Pecenongan in Central Jakarta, the new Jetstar Travel Shop will be operated by TX Travel, offering ticket sales and information on Jetstar services.
The first two Jetstar Travel Shops, which opened in October 2012 and May 2013, are located in East Jakarta and Surabaya.
