Tune Hotels has opened its first budget hotel in Australia – the Tune Hotel Melbourne.

The 225-room property was officially launched today (8 November 2013) in a ceremony attended by premier of Victoria, Dr Denis Napthine, Malaysia’s consul-general in Melbourne, Dr Mohamad Rameez Yahaya, and Tune Hotels’ CEO, Mark Lankester. Tune will also now base its Australasian operations in Melbourne.

“Tune Hotels Group’s decision to open its first Australian hotel and base its operations here in Melbourne will create more than 100 direct and indirect local jobs,” said Dr Napthine.

“This decision by Tune Hotels Group is a major vote of confidence in Victoria and our economy. Tune Hotel Melbourne brings a new model of accommodation to Australia, and I am very proud that Melbourne is at the forefront of this new tourism concept.”

Located at 609 Swanston Street, in the Carlton area of Melbourne, Tune Hotel Melbourne will work on Tune’s pay-as-you-use concept, with a room only rate and optional extras, such as Wi-Fi, bathroom amenities and TV.

The hotel also features an indoor open air courtyard, a lounge, restaurant, café and luggage storage area, plus a self-service launderette and free internet desks on the ground floor.

The group now has 11 hotels operating across Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, UK, Thailand, India, Japan and Australia.
