Author Bill Bryson, scientist Lord Winston and broadcaster Jennie Bond will join Cunard for the 40th anniversary year of its speaker programme, it was announced this week.
The celebrities will join the Queen Mary 2, Queen Elizabeth and Queen Victoria for the ‘Insights’ speaker programme.
Jennie Bond will sail with Queen Victoria between Fort Lauderdale and Buenos Aires, departing 12 January, and Bill Bryson will join Queen Elizabeth on its New York to San Francisco route, departing 18 January.
Lord Winston will be aboard Queen Mary 2 in March on the Bali to Shanghai itinerary, and other notable speakers include Dick Clement, Ian Le Frenais and Admiral Lord West.
As part of another celebration, Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter James Taylor will perform on the cruise line’s flagship, Queen Mary 2, as part of her own 10th anniversary celebrations.
The musician and his band will be aboard the eight-day Transatlantic Crossing from New York to Southampton, departing 27 August 2014. They will headline two performances in the ship’s Royal Court Theatre during the voyage.
Angus Struthers, Cunard’s marketing director, said: “We are delighted to welcome James Taylor back aboard Queen Mary 2, particularly during her 10th anniversary year. Our guests will be thrilled to enjoy this intimate concert experience with an American music icon.”
James Taylor said: “I’ve always wanted to take an ocean liner back to Europe, and in June 2009 we got the chance to do that. It’s such a civilised way to go, and Queen Mary 2 is the last word in first-class travel.”
