The United Arab Emirates (UAE) was the centre of attraction yesterday in Paris. Dubai stole the show at the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) bid for the Expo2020. Dubai has won the bid under the theme ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’.
Dubai’s was way ahead with 116 votes out of 163 putting Russia’s Ekaterinburg come second best. The UAE was in celebration mode from the time of announcement with festive lights showcasing the amazing Burj Khalifa and festivities across several spots in the Emirates.
As reported in WAM, the president His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, in a telephone conversation, congratulated vice president and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, on Dubai’s winning the bid to host EXPO 2020.
As per the conversation with His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa affirmed that “our joy in the UAE was double by the win as it coincides with the celebrations of the 42nd National Day.” He noted that this success was the culmination of a series of successes and great achievements the UAE has been incessantly making since its establishment 42 years ago to remain in the lead in all fields.
As per the BIE, World Expos attract million of visitors, every five years and for a period of six months. The highlight of the win is that the World Expo’s have never been held in the Middle East, Africa and South East Asia in the history of the event.
