Boeing has launched its new business jet programme.
Based on the new Boeing 737 MAX passenger aircraft, the Boeing Business Jet (BBJ) MAX is designed to offer an improved range and greater fuel-efficiency than an existing BBJ. The first order was placed by an unnamed existing customer.
“We are honoured that an existing BBJ customer has become the first to select the BBJ MAX,” said Capt. Steve Taylor, president of Boeing Business Jets. “The BBJ MAX provides more room, longer range and emits fewer emissions than its nearest competition, making it an ideal choice for today’s BBJ customers.”
The BBJ MAX 8 will have a range of 11,713km – an increase of more than 1,480km over the BBJ2. It will also offer a cabin 5.8 metres longer than today’s BBJ, while fuel consumption will be reduced by 14%.
The new BBJ family will include the standard BBJ MAX 8 and extended BBJ MAX 9. Plans for a smaller BBJ MAX 7 are still being studied.
“We expect a large demand for the BBJ MAX, particularly for those BBJ owners who want to fly farther and more efficiently and still maintain the exceptional comfort of a BBJ,” Taylor added.
Deliveries of the new BBJ MAX are expected to commence in 2018. Buyers will be allowed to customise the interiors of their business jets.
