Tourism New Zealand has announced a new scheme designed to entice more Australian business events to the country.
Under the plan, Australian companies are now able to claim back the goods and services tax (GST) when holding business events in New Zealand. The scheme will allow Australian businesses to register for New Zealand’s GST, if they meet a list of criteria found on NZ Inland Revenue Department website.
“Tourism New Zealand has made headway to encourage Australian companies to bring their conferences to New Zealand and show off its amazing people, venues and culture,” said Bjoern Spreitzer, international business events manager for Tourism NZ.
“Our key objective is to educate business about the advantages of conferencing in New Zealand and in doing so we’ve implemented new staff to cater entirely for the Australian market,” he added.
New Zealand is moving to boost its international MICE sector. Late last year, plans were approved for a new 3,500-seat national convention centre in Auckland.
