AirAsia is planning to launch flights to Xi’an, the home of the Terracotta Warriors.

Commencing on 2 July 2014, the new service will be operated by the airline’s long-haul arm, AirAsia X, using its 377-seat Airbus A330-300 aircraft, which features 12 flat-bed seats in business class.

“Adding Xi’an into our ever growing network in China proves our commitment in our growth strategies in the Asia Pacific region,” explained Azran Osman-Rani, CEO of AirAsia X.

“With Xi’an added on our network, we expect to see our total revenue increase to over 17% with more than one million guests flying [on] our China routes from Kuala Lumpur this year.”

AirAsia X will operate the route four times a week, departing Kuala Lumpur every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday at 1815, arriving at Xi’an’s Xianyang International Airport at 2315. The return service will then leave Xi’an the following day at 0015, arriving back into KL at 0515.

The capital of northern China’s Shaanxi province, Xi’an becomes AirAsia X’s fifth destination in China after Hangzhou, Chengdu, Beijing, and Shanghai.
