China Airlines has taken delivery of a new Boeing 777 aircraft, which features the liveries of both the Taiwanese airline and the US planemaker.

The twin-aisle aircraft, which becomes the 10th B777-300ER in the Taiwanese carrier’s fleet, was handed over in a ceremony at the Boeing factory in Washington state. It features Boeing’s blue and white branding on the lower part the fuselage, and China Airlines’ white and pink livery on the top and tail.

This marks the second co-branding exercise between Boeing and China Airlines, following the launch of a special B747-400 in 2004. That aircraft was nicknamed the ‘Blue Whale’ and became the world’s first co-branded twin-aisle jet.

“We are delighted to celebrate 100 years of Boeing by working together… to accomplish the first co-branded livery 777-300ER,” said Steve Chang, China Airlines’ vice president of corporate planning. “This is our 10th 777 from Boeing and since our first 777 entered into service in 2014, we have been exceedingly satisfied with its outstanding performance.”

Ray Conner, president & CEO of Boeing’s commercial aircraft unit, added that the aircraft was “the perfect symbol our enduring 50+ years of partnership [with China Airlines]”.

The new B777-300ERs will be able to seat 358 passengers – 40 in business class, 62 in premium economy and 256 in economy. It also features the airline’s Economy Family Couch seats, which convert a row of three economy class seats into a flat bed. The aircraft will be deployed on long-haul routes to North America and Europe.
