In two weeks’ time, Royal Caribbean International’s billion-dollar smartship, Ovation of the Seas, will arrive in Singapore for the very first time.
Ovation of the Seas will be the largest ship for Singapore, weighing in at 168,666 gross registered tonnes (GRT) and 347 metres in length and featuring robot bartenders, virtual balconies and a capsule taking guests 92 metres above the waves,
Guests onboard are looked after by 1,500 crew and with 2,090 staterooms, Ovation of the Seas can accommodate more people than Raffles Hotel, the Fullerton Bay Hotel, the Intercontinental, and Hilton in Singapore combined.
The ship includes an observation capsule, ‘North Star’, the ‘Bionic Bar’, where cocktails are made and served by robots, and a SGD18.5 million (USD13.4m)hi-tech entertainment venue “Two70”, which creates scenes through its dynamic Roboscreens and transformative glass walls for a multidimensional performance.
Additionally, the smartship offers skydiving and surfing experiences, as well as “SeaPlex”, the largest indoor activity space at sea, which includes everything from bumper cars to a circus school.
Ovation of the Seas has 18 restaurants, featuring a variety of cuisines, including the imaginative dining experience at Wonderland, and Jamie’s Italian by Jamie Oliver.
Guests on board can connect to the internet with speeds that match fast broadband connections onshore and technology also helps reduce the ship’s energy consumption, through sophisticated computer modelling and energy saving devices.
Ovation of the Seas will arrive in Singapore on June 8 2016 for a three-night sailing as part of its 52-night inaugural “Global Odyssey”. She will be christened in Tianjin, China on June 24, 2016 by Chinese actress, Fan BingBing.
